Curt Schilling : Freak

I'm not a baseball fan.

I watch a little during the playoffs, I grew up liking the braves and Cubs, so I got used to defeat as a youngster. Now with the modernbraves, I am comfortable with the eventual collapse in the playoffs.

So when the strike occured, it didn't take a whole lot to push me off the cliff. Some say I might have been spotted leaping from the bandwagon before the wheels went flying down into deadman's gulch.

At any rate, while I like the Boston Red Sox as a concept, I'm really rooting for them to win so that their fans will just shut up.

Seriously, Red Sox fan is almost as bad a Bama Fan or Tide Fan. *when I find the stories showing just how nuts these fans are, i'll link these appropriately*

Let us move to this years playoffs. I again root for the Red Sox. No, that's not right.

I am rooting for Curt Schilling.

This is a man who has developed a condition where a tendon in his right ankle pops over the bones of his feet with a pop, causeing severe discomfort, and more importantly a significant loss of strength.

So what does he do? he undergoes an experimental procedure to have the tendon sutured in place. Just cut him up, sew him up, and stich him up. Then out to the field.

That ain't ketchup. . .
That ain't ketchup. . .

The man is pitching in the national league playoffs and the world series, and he has blood pouring from his ankles , coating his socks profusely. The irony of the team being named the "Red Sox", should not be lost Perhaps it could be said that in a tradition filled with curses and bugaboos, it was a portent of possible salvation.

Of course, as every Sox fan knows, they were up 2-0 in '86 and lost the series. Lord knows Bill Buckner can never forget.

So, fight on Curt Schilling! You speak volumes of determination, grit effort and just plain old stubborness, that the rest of us can only imagine.

And if you canget those yahoos from mentioning the word "curse" again, then God bless you.

Florida fires coach Zook after Mississippi State loss

Welcome to the SEC, coach Zook. Don't forget your hat on the way out.

People around the country who are not from the southeast love to talk about the tradition and the jovial atmosphere of college football.

In the SEC, where Football is a much larger deal, nay a religion, mediocre just doesn't cut it. Well, unless you're Vanderbilt, but everybody could use the extra week off they provide.

Losing to a bottom of the barrel Mississippi State team that couldn't even beat the Division II Maine "We have a football team? cool" Bearcats is a complete disgrace for any self respecting SEC school this year, let alone one with a storied past like Florida.

Let's just say that if Bama loses to Mississippi State, Coach Shula would, in the words of Dezi Arnaz, "got's some 'splainin' to do."

Bama strikes me as the team that almost can win the big one, on just about every weekend. What makes this year so aggrivating is that I could see Alabama being undefeated this year if they didn't have Brodie Croyle sitting on the sidelines after a stupid show of bravado against Western Carolina.

The good news for Florida is that they're now the frontrunner in the Urban Meyer Sweepstakes. To the loser goes the spoils.

Sorry western football fans, the southeast is the cradle of college football, and it's also where the real money is.

Now if they could just get his wife to learn the joys of jet ski's and windsurfing and still flying up to Utah on the boosters learjet ;)

You want courage in a president? Try this. . .

How John Kerry exposed the Contra-cocaine scandal

It's Salon, so you have to jump through their hoops or get a subscription, just open it in a new tab for you Firefox users.

If you're old enough or not completely self absorbed in the 80's you'll remember that Reagan was considered pretty much untouchable. The term "Teflon President" was referred to lovingly by those on the right, and with disdain on those by the left.

What is truly upsetting about this, is that this ability to rise above the fray allowed this administration to commit some of the most heinous acts of foreign policy that this nation has ever seen.

I'll grant you that no president is entirely clean on this, but the issue of the presidency being the ultimate representation of the American government and in extension, who we are as Americans, is undeniable.

The president holds the "Bully Pulpit", to lead by example and to steer the nation to the path of its own best interests. That's a tricky phrase, "best interest": what do we mean by that term. Are we referring to our own personal advancement, or to the betterment of ourselves as a people? And is it possible to do both without hamstringing us to some untenable victory of mediocrity over excellence?

I don't have the answer to that, and if you look inside, I'm pretty sure you don't have it either.

I do know that fighting a war on drugs while at the same time funding a paramilitary organization who had confirmed and ongoing narcotic smuggling operations into the united states is not a way to advance the cause of the betterment of the United States and the American way of life.

Call me a commie, but that seems like cutting off our nose to spite our face. That this, after it was uncovered, was left to wither on the vine due to self-smothered press coverage, is a crime of journalistic integrity in a profession filled with similar abysmal behavior.

So, I'm a recovering LJ user. I have to admit that this is a lot more to my persoanl liking.

I'll add to this through today, and hopefully use this more often than I did my last blog.

I know my wife, for one would be happy with that ;)

Anyway about myself: White male early thirties born and raised in the south. Big football fan. Big, but getting smaller everyday, person. Big liberal, which makes for big contradicitons and tremendous irony.

The Southern Liberal:

I am what I thought a democrat down south should always be. I don't think people should be prevented from being able to take their guns hunting, but you don't need a semi automatic to take down a 10 point. I think the church is a nice place, but doesn't belong in a smoke filled room where the wheels get greased and the work gets done.

I think if you find somone in your life, by God you should be able to live your life with them. Even if you're gay.

That's one of those things you don't hear much about, southern liberals, but they're out there, hiding in the shadows, keeping their peace and being good people, for the most part.

Anyway, there's some stuff I want to get out there and on my chest,. so this will do for now.

Hi and welcome. Have some pie.
